Game Genres
Tabletop gaming refers to any type of game that is played on a table or flat surface, typically with game pieces, cards, or other physical components. Tabletop games are often social and require players to interact with each other, either cooperatively or competitively.
Tabletop games can be divided into several different categories, including:
Euro
A Eurogame is a class of tabletop games that generally have indirect player interaction and abstract physical components. Eurogames are sometimes contrasted with American-style board games, which generally involve more luck, conflict, and drama.
Amerigame
An Amerigame, short for American-style board game, is a loose category of tabletop game that generally features a prominent theme, encourages direct conflict between players (even in some co-op games such as Dead of Winter), and has a significant degree of luck.
Party
Party games are games that are played at social gatherings to facilitate interaction and provide entertainment and recreation. Categories include (explicit) icebreaker, parlour (indoor), picnic (outdoor), and large group games.
Miniature
Miniature wargaming is a form of wargaming in which players enact battles between opposing military forces that are represented by miniature physical models.
War Games
A wargame is a type of strategy game that simulates warfare realistically, as opposed to abstract strategy games such as chess.
CCGs & LCGs
A collectible card game (CCG) is generally defined as a game where players acquire cards into a personal collection from which they create customized decks of cards and challenge other players in matches.
Role Playing Games
Many role playing groups visit the ranch just to set aside three or more days to do some serious role playing. While we don’t have every popular RPG source book yet we do have a good selection a RPG accessories such as large dry erase mats, wet erase markers, dice, miniatures, dungeon tiles and so much more.
Warhammer 40000
Warhammer 40,000 is a miniature wargame that takes place in the grim darkness of the far future, in which humanity fights spectacular battles across the galaxy to defend its place among the stars. Arrayed against the might of mankind are the many different alien races and the malignant forces of Chaos.
Star Wars X-Wing
This tabletop skirmish miniatures game pits various factions in Star Wars against each other in a tactical space ship combat miniatures game. At it’s core you secretly pick a maneuver for each ship and then, in pilot skill order from worse to best you execute them. Then in reverse order every ship gets to fire meaning the best pilots get to move last to respond to others movements but shoot first to avoid being shot themselves. It’s a brilliant system and worth checking out.
